Biography

Olaolu Slawn, born in Lagos, Nigeria, is known for blending street art with Abstract Expressionism. His work, deeply influenced by Yoruba traditions and contemporary social issues, resonates with a diverse range of audiences, including figures like ASAP Rocky, Tremaine Emory, and Skepta and most recently Kim Kardasian.

Slawn’s art tackles complex themes of politics, race, and identity. His journey began in Lagos at Wafflesncream, Nigeria’s leading skate shop, where he co-founded the apparel collective Motherlan. Slawn’s shift to painting came during the 2020 London lockdown, and his debut exhibition at Truman Brewery in 2021 showcased his unique style of fusing playful imagery with sharp social commentary. In 2022, he made his auction debut at Sotheby’s “Contemporary Curated” sale. Slawn also made history in 2023 by designing the statuette and set for the Brit Awards, becoming the youngest and first Nigerian-born artist to do so. He was later chosen to design the 2024 FA Cup Trophy.
