Biography

The Miaz Brothers, Roberto (b. 1965) and Renato (b. 1968), are Italian sibling artists renowned for their ethereal, out-of-focus portraits that challenge traditional notions of perception and identity. Born in Milan, they currently live and work between London and Valencia.

The duo's signature technique involves using aerosol spray paint to create large-scale canvases where subjects—ranging from classical figures to contemporary individuals—appear blurred and indistinct. This deliberate obscuration invites viewers to engage actively with the artwork, relying on personal memories and associations to interpret the images. As the brothers explain, they aim to "dematerialize the lines" to provoke a deeper cognitive response, encouraging observers to recognise and re-establish the limits of their own perception.
